ABOUT

Tomasz Kaczmarek combines a passion for empirical asset pricing and risk management with a keen interest in using AI for smarter investment decisions. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Finance from the Poznań University of Economics and Business, where he explored “The Role of Predictions from Machine Learning in Portfolio Construction.” During the 2022-23 academic year, Tomasz was a research fellow at the Trulaske College of Business, University of Missouri, where he collaborated on innovative projects in machine learning and finance. Currently, he holds a research position at the Poznań University of Economics and Business and collaborates with the University of Agriculture in Kraków on projects leveraging forest imagery for managerial decision-making.

Tomasz’s journey in finance and economics has been recognized with scholarships like the Fulbright and Bekker (NAWA), reflecting his commitment to the field. He holds the title of a certified Polish investment advisor and is a proud CFA charterholder. His two-decade career in finance has seen him take on roles ranging from strategist and portfolio manager to capital markets analyst.

He’s also an entrepreneur at heart: Tomasz co-founded Aixon, an AI-focused investment firm where he serves as CIO, and Starfunds, a fintech venture that combines independent fund distribution with robo-advisory. His early career was marked by significant roles in a top Polish brokerage house, where he grew from leading innovation and product development to steering investment strategies as Chairman of the Investment Committee, among other roles.

WHAT’S NEW

  • November 2024: Excited to begin my research position at the Poznań University of Economics and Business in the Department of Investments and Financial Markets, focusing on AI applications in finance.
  • I’m thrilled to share that two of our working papers, “Just Look: Knowing Peers with Image Representation” and “Animating Stock Markets,” co-authored with Professor Kuntara Pukthuanthong, have been selected as finalists for the 2024 Dr. Richard A. Crowell Memorial Prize paper competition. We’re excited and honored to be recognized for our work in this prestigious competition!
